Bosco et le serpent.....

The Bosco stories just get better. I come home from work today and I let them outside as one would typically do when their dogs have been inside all day.

A few minutes later I look out the back door and see Bosco whipping something around. First, I'm afraid it is a dead bird or mole. I look closer and think it might be a worm, but no, it is a snake. I chase after him to let it go. Then I call Eugene, who is still at work, to tell him.

"I think he's got a snake" I say and he panics. "You have to get it away from him!" I tell him he keeps running from me. He then asks if I think it's poisonous. I certainly can't tell from where I am, but if anyone in this relationship would know, it would be me.
Finally he drops it and I walk over to look at it. "You have to make sure it isn't poisonous," he keeps saying. I pick it up and find that it has no head, which is normally my method of determining the venomousness of snakes.

Apparently I didn't tell him how small it really was. Even if it was poisonous, I don't know how much damage it could do considering it had to already have been dead. "I'm sure it's a black snake or a garter snake I tell him. Anything poisonous in this region is much lighter colored."

So that calmed him down. Then I came inside and checked on the internet and saw that no venomous snake in Missouri looks like that snake (even though I already knew that, at least I could tell Eugene that Bosco won't die.)

Oh, and I let him know that there were probably more snakes and that many of them are living beneath the tree we had cut down 3 months ago.....so if that doesn't get him motivated....:-)
